Great recipe. Have fabricated it numerous times. I simmer meat mixture for 20 mins. I keep the meat mixture split up from the cottage cheese, sour cream etc mixture and layer it in the casserole dish starting with the meat mixture and so cottage cheese, sour cream etc mixture .. echo and then elevation with cheddar cheese.

I'm happy to detect a "hamburger helper"-like recipe that doesn't use condensed cream soup. My kids love HH, but I tin't eat information technology considering of the MSG. This recipe was bully, but I made a few changes. Used no butter, less salt, used garlic pulverisation instead of garlic salt (and more than of information technology), more than pepper. Substituted white onion sauteed with the beef for the green onion, fewer noodles -- and used whole wheat rotini. We loved it this way. Just what nosotros were looking for!
06/03/2006
This was a pretty good recipe. I used real garlic instead of the powder. I besides left out the butter, and used one% cottage cheese, one% sour cream, and 93% lean burger. It turned out quite tasty.
09/16/2012
This is i of my husbands fovorite meals. I utilise real garlic, and a bundle of cream cheese instead of cottage cheese. We love it!
09/12/2000
Very tasty. Piece of cake to brand. The combination of sour foam and cottage are great together!
01/24/2002
This was delicious and my ii year old loved information technology too. I did what i of the reviews said and cutting out the green onions (considering my ii yr. old won't eat them) and substitued about a teaspoon of Onion Salt. I as well omitted the regular table salt since I used Onion Common salt. I volition DEFINITELY exist making this over again!!!
06/23/2005
This is one of our favorite recipes to make. My husband loves it, and I practise too :) Piece of cake to prepare, groovy texture and flavor. This recipe has become a "regular" in our business firm!
11/xiv/2011
My 12 yr old daughter was bored and wanted to melt and picked this recipe. We used lean ground Sirloin but did not saute in butter. Nosotros substituted fresh garlic for the garlic table salt and used whole wheat noodles. We couldn't Await to eat this for lunch because it smelled so good! I think the green onions and cottage cheese actually enhanced the flavor of this dish. Definitely a keeper!
07/05/2010
I adore this dish, quick, easy, tasty, and comforting. We accept information technology here often and it never gets old.
03/09/2011
Im sorry, but I thought this was terrible. Missing flavor- all of it.
02/20/2011
This is a really good, bones but hearty casserole that my family unit liked. I followed the recipe exactly and it was super piece of cake. Just a good stick to your ribs dinner.
02/08/2011
I fabricated this dish because I queried all of the leftovers I had from Super Basin Sunday ...... sour foam, shredded cheese, cottage cheese, greenish onions, and some chili. This ane came up as one that sounded the easiest. I used the chili in place of the browned footing beef and followed the balance of the recipe. It was good. My husband said it was succulent and had 2+ helpings!! I wasn't really that crazy nearly information technology, but it was good, used all my leftovers, and nosotros have more than for dinner this night!! Glad I plant it!! I retrieve it could be tweaked in many ways!!
07/01/2004
Very practiced. I left out the dark-green onions and added white onions to the cooking meat. Thanks.
06/21/2010
I tried the Cody version and it was great. I used ground turkey, added more common salt/pepper and used lasagna noodles.
11/10/2009
I think maybe another can of love apple sauce or diced tomatoes...probably won't make it once again
09/05/2008
Everybody liked this recipe. I altered it a bit by adding oregano and opting for mozzerella instead of cheddar. If y'all similar this, you'll too like Hubby's Delight. Cheers for sharing!
09/nineteen/2011
Really skilful, my son said it was restaurant status! Everyone liked the sour foam and onion flavor. I subbed turkey merely better with a bolder flavour similar beef. Also subbed out the cottage cheese cuz I didn't have any, and used 1/2 cup evidently yogurt and i/4 cup parmesan cheese instead of the cottage. It was fine that way, also put some bread crumbs on top when baking.
02/16/2011
Excellent! So easy to make & taste succulent! This recipe is and so versatile, y'all tin use any noodles, sub. turkey for the basis beef, and jazz it upward with extra spices & herbs. Side by side time I brand this I will attempt information technology with ground turkey and supercede the cottage cheese with ricotta cheese. The sour cream definately gives this dish good flavor, otherwise it would be banal. I be making this in the time to come if the married man asks for hamburger helper. This tops it for sure!
01/05/2009
I thought that this recipe was AWESOME!!! All of united states of america did...no matter what you add or subtract from it is your own choice...only this is proficient. And I am going back for seconds right now. :) Good job; and I will be looking for more excellent recipes like this ane!!!
09/25/2008
Wow!!! My VERY picky husband loved this! My son and I idea it was wonderfull as well. A KEEPER!!!!
10/25/2008
I made this dish for dinner tonight and my family loved it. It was very easy to prepare so it was right upward my alley.
07/13/2008
Delicious. Amend than expected.
07/08/2010
Meal was very skilful. Changed upward a few things...no green onions, added i extra cup tomato sauce, and actress 1/2 cup cottage cheese. I didn't brown the meat in butter either. Didn't run across much point to that. I too added some oregano to the sauce which added a fiddling bit of flavour. To top it off, I used a mixture of cheddar cheese and mozzarella. I idea it was keen, and my daughter who never likes much of anything had seconds.
03/20/2015
Of course, I changed it only kept to the basics and that led to a few ideas. I changed the manifestly tomato sauce to Ragu traditional because information technology was already open in the fridge, I left out the chedder cheese topping and substituted ricotta for the cottage cheese because that's what I had on paw. Not only did these substitusions add more than flavor information technology was even better the next twenty-four hour period. Definitely a keeper!
03/03/2009
My mom ever made this growing up. A quick, like shooting fish in a barrel recipe for a busy family!
11/nineteen/2010
Kids loved information technology, I thought information technology could use some more than flavor. There wasn't much for leftovers.
02/04/2011
My boyfriend and I LOOOOVED this. I have been trying out a bunch of new recipes over the last month, and I would say past far this was our favorite. He wouldn't allow me put the leftovers upwardly because he wanted to come up back for more later in the evening :)
09/26/2009
This meal is good for something quick for the family. I probley wouldn't make it anytime soon. But was ok.
07/03/2000
It's a peachy casserole that is rich and filling.
01/19/2012
Prob one of best casserole recipies Ive gotten off here.. Very good with salad on the side for our 'simpler' evenings. I made two of these at once to freeze one & substituted lentils b/c I only defrosted the 1 lb of beef & had a 12 oz bag of Egg noodles for the 2 casseroles too. Probably added a little extra cheese to the top & a trivial actress garlic/pepper seasoning to the beefiness. Excellent!
10/15/2002
We double the recipe and eat it for a few days my kids beloved it and ask for it all of the time.
03/22/2011
Proficient, simple kid-friendly dish with ingredients y'all probably already have ---- dearest these kinds of recipes! My family gobbled it up! I served sauteed spinach on the side and used fresh garlic, depression-fat ricotta (my bunch hates cottage cheese), and not-fatty plain Greek yogurt instead of the sour cream. Delish!
03/25/2012
I really enjoyed it! I left out the greenish onion and chopped a yellow onion. I only had colby jack cheese but it turned out great!
01/11/2011
I knew my kids would like this, but I really enjoyed information technology as well. It is very like to lasanga or broiled spaghetti, simply a lot easier and faster. Slap-up weeknight meal.
04/05/2011
I did not similar this recipe at all!
06/25/2012
v stars! Years ago I made this recipe for my husband and I and nosotros merely loved it. Somehow along the way I lost the recipe! So glad to find it again :)
10/23/2011
This is a good hearty goulash, easy to make and kid-friendly. I didn't have tomato sauce, so I had to utilise a tin can of diced tomatoes. I liked having the lycopersicon esculentum chunks in there, but I think it would have been better with sauce (adjacent time I'll do both). I also added a tin can of kidney beans. I particularly like the sour foam flavor. Volition make once more!
11/x/2007
Very quick and easy to brand. Thank you
08/02/2006
My husband and I did think this was very good at all.
02/24/2000
Piece of cake to make. A smashing "comfort" food. Kids ask for it regularly!
06/13/2009
I inverse it past using sirloin steak, pan grilled and and then simmered in mushroom soup. Later on I sliced it and used the soup mixture in place of the cottage cheese. Used bow tie pasta. Splendid!
04/06/2005
another winner
02/06/2001
This was super like shooting fish in a barrel and delicious. Our picky 11 year onetime loved it. I omitted the green onions and added onion pulverization while browning the beef instead. KAMY
07/14/2005
this recipe was good. I added more than seasoning to the meat and used white onions instead of green. I too added more cheese. Succulent.
05/01/2012
My hubby enjoyed this dish, only I thought it was simply okay. Very much like stroganoff.
10/13/2005
Skilful goulash dish. I used a can of tomato soup instead of tomato sauce. I as well only had about 6 ounces of noodles to use. I layered the dish in a glass casserole. Beef/soup mix, then the noodles, and so the sour cream/cottage cheese mix, then a second layer of each and topped with the cheese. It was not flossy this mode, more like a lasagna.
01/10/2009
like shooting fish in a barrel to substitute any other kind of pasta. i used upwardly what i had on manus
01/21/2011
Yesterday it snowed all afternoon and into the evening, so last nighttime I was in the mood for some good quondam-fashioned comfort nutrient. This looked similar it would fit the pecker so I tried it. I made half the recipe omitting the butter. There wasn't enough sauce to allow it to simmer for 5 minutes, so I skipped that part. I also put all the cheese in the casserole instead of on superlative. Other than those small-scale changes I followed the recipe. I was concerned it might dry, so I baked mine covered for half the time and uncovered for the last half. This was adept and yes, comforting – just what I was subsequently. I served it with a salad and garlic bread and we had a prissy dinner on a snowy, and did I mention common cold, dark!
10/xiii/2009
Easy, tasty enough, and child friendly.
07/12/2005
I really like this recipe. I made it with fat free cottage cheese, fat free sour cream, and 7% fat ground beef. The simply thing I would recommend is adding more than garlic salt. Other than that- this is yummy- fifty-fifty in a low fatty version :)
11/19/2000
Meliorate the 2nd twenty-four hours after it is all blended
08/29/2007
This is a proficient dish; I used chicken instead of beefiness and everyone liked information technology. I will make this once again.
04/03/2013
I did not care for this recipe.
01/26/2017
I accept fabricated this recipe for thirty-plus years. I don't alter information technology except to leave out the onions when I don't have them. The entire family unit loves this and it is a hit when I take it to pot-luck dinners. I have shared the recipe with numerous people. I don't sympathize people using this site who modify the recipe and and then give it low ratings for not beingness good enough. Possibly they should try information technology the way it information technology is written once.
09/twenty/2009
I fabricated this with low-fat cottage cheese, basis turkey, omitted the butter, regular cheddar cheese and whole wheat egg noodles. It turned out pretty skilful and was easy to make. My husband even liked it, so that'due south actually proverb something because he is picky sometimes.
06/xiv/2005
My family unit loved this recipe! the kids had seconds (and thirds), and my husband said it was a hit with everyone (including him - which doesn't happen often!). We didn't have egg noodles, and so I substituted elbow/macaroni noodles. I wasn't sure what "creamed cottage cheese" was, so I just used it equally is. I besides used 12 oz. instead of 1 loving cup. And I forgot to put in the onion. It was delicious and piece of cake. Nosotros'll definitely use this recipe once more and over again! Oh, I was besides out of shredded cheese, so I put slices of american on top.
05/26/2004
Hubby and I both love this! I pocket-size change, I added an extra cup of cheese between the layers. I mean, can ya accept too much cheese???? :) Wonderful goulash.
01/nineteen/2015
I fabricated this for my kids because I had a lot of the ingredients on hand. They liked it. I didn't have cottage cheese so I used foam cheese and it was good.
09/06/2010
I think information technology needed something. It wasn't bad, but wasn't the greatest either. You should cut downward on the sour foam a little bit and some sort of spice. Other than that easy to make.
ten/13/2018
Made information technology with pizza sauce yummy
11/20/2002
My husband actually enjoys this. Its "different" for me since I don't eat cottage cheese, but its skilful for when I don't take annihilation else to make, and it reheats pretty well.
03/26/2014
This was just "ok." I didn't have cottage cheese and then I used ricotta instead. It was overall kind of banal.
10/thirteen/2003
This was really delicious. I used a brownish onion and a green bong pepper rather than the green onions and added them to the meat when browning. Didn't require any farther additions - great as information technology was. Husband has requested it once more next week.
12/23/2004
Easy to make. Not bad, just not something I'd look forward to at dinner.
08/12/2014
Later reading the reviews it was evident to me that this needed to be kicked upwards some. I used 1/2 cup of tomato sauce and i/two cup of salsa, that really helped. I used minced garlic instead of powdered garlic with ane tea of oregano. That did the trick for us.
07/15/2012
I used salsa instead of tomato plant sauce and added a can of mexi-corn. My hubby loved this!
02/fifteen/2000
Has a lasagna flavor. Our picky kids ate it!
03/20/2003
boring, nada special virtually it.
x/22/2002
It was very easy to prepare, although I simply *turn down* to cook beef in butter! The sense of taste reminded me of stroganoff (which is great!!). I would have given information technology 5 stars except that it doesn't reheat very well.
03/29/2012
Yum!
06/23/2019
needs a little chip more flavor
10/13/2020
So just post-obit this recipe it was ok, pretty flavorless. I altered information technology and information technology came out a million times better. I added oregano, garlic, mustard and onion pulverization. Near two tablespoons of Worcestershire, and a beef bullion cube to the cherry-red sauce for more flavor. Instead of cottage cheese I used one-half a block of cream cheese and the sour cream, added a little sprinkling of garlic salt and fresh cracked pepper and some reserved pasta water to go far creamy but not too thick. So layered as usual and topped with Colby jack cheese. Much better
07/19/2005
Well, I'm kind of torn with this recipe. It tasted pretty skillful, but not much improve than spicing up a box of hamburger helper. It'due south a great recipe if you lot want a casserole and desire a piddling flake more flavor than Hamburger Helper, but it didn't "wow" us very much. Still, for a casserole, information technology worked.
06/16/2015
This recipe goes past many names including Divine Goulash and Husband'due south Please in addition to the name this submitter used. Yous can find versions of it many places and they all seem to vary the amounts of ingredients likewise as method. I establish this to exist a delicious, piece of cake, and super creamy alternative to lasagna. Here is what I did: Lightly grease a casserole dish and preheat the oven to 350. Cook 12 oz of egg noodles to al dente and then rinse in cold h2o to end the cooking process. Mix the noodles with 1 loving cup (viii oz) softened foam cheese, 1 loving cup cottage cheese, and one cup sour cream. Brownish 1 pound footing beef along with 1/two cup white or xanthous onion. Drain the fat and then add a 24 oz jar of your favorite lycopersicon esculentum pasta sauce. You may add additional seasoning to the sauce if desired such as Worcestershire, hot sauce, garlic pulverization, or even cajun seasoning. Simmer the meat/sauce mixture for 20 minutes. Spread half of the noodle mixture in the dish, then drizzle half the meat/sauce mixture over top, so sprinkle over ane/2 cup each of mozzarella and cheddar cheeses. Repeat layers of other one-half of noodles, other half of meat/sauce, and another 1/2 cup each of mozzarella and cheddar cheeses. Bake for 35-40 minutes and end with a few minutes on broil to brown the top cheese layer. Delicious!
03/13/2018
Information technology'south okay. Needs more flavor somehow
08/02/2010
Very good recipe, though I did brand a few changes: 1. I cooked and tuckered the footing beef first then put information technology dorsum in the pan and added the butter etc... two. I added a handful of fresh chopped basil to the meat sauce. 3. I substitued ricotta cheese for the cottage cheese. 4. I mixed the meat sauce and the noodles and put in casserole dish then poured the sourcream/ricotta cheese/onion mixture over the pinnacle and swooshed information technology effectually with a spoon v. I topped it with parmesean and mozzerella cheese
06/06/2013
Yummy even though I substituted manifestly yogurt for the sour cream. It fabricated enough to freeze half for another time.
02/13/2007
This was practiced. Something like hamburger helper but much amend. I also added a tin can of cream of mushroom soup to make the sauce a little more goey.
xi/14/2007
This recipie came out kind of bland. My family said it was just okay. I followed the directions to a t. I think it would have tasted meliorate if you added foam cheese instead of cottage cheese. Possibly just spice it up a fleck more likewise. Probably won't make information technology again. Sorry
05/xviii/2006
I really liked the aught to this recipe. My two small boys didn't intendance for information technology though. My husband thought is was ok but wasn't terribly impressed. I was looking for some fashion to use sour cream that wasn't beef strogonaff. This was very close to strogonaff, but very good!
02/18/2002
This recipe was my hubby's kind of thing, non mine. He gave it 4 *'s, I merely 2. If nosotros go far in the future, we will half the recipe then I don't have to eat whatsoever : ) But once again, my husband actually liked it.
08/11/2014
I liked it, but substituted quite a bit and changed a bit. I browned venison in oil with 3 cloves chopped garlic and 1 cup reconstituted onion flakes and a can of chopped mushrooms, seasoned with salt, pepper and garlic powder. I didn't accept ricotta and then subbed a block of cream cheese, and added a can of regular Rotel and a can of black beans, rinsed. Didn't take egg noodles and so subbed Rotini. Didn't have tomato plant sauce so used a tin can of tomato paste, added i cup water and 1 tsp sugar and mixed. Mixed everything only noodles together in bucket and simmered for 10 minutes. Information technology was beautiful and creamy, simply definitively bland. Spiced it up with a dash more of pepper, a few shakes of chili pulverization and 5-vi splashes of Franks Red Hot. This did the trick. Covered noodles in dish and stirred together, covered in mozzarella and breadcrumbs. My 2 y.o. sometimes picky eater gobbled it upward, wasn't likewise spicy, just flavorful. Sauce with all the extras made a full 9x13 and 8x8, though I had to brand more pasta for the 8x8. Sauce was and so good I was eating it with a spoon during assembly. Froze 8x8 and sending information technology to grandma'southward for an easy meal when she watches 2 y.o. tomorrow. Slap-up recipe for any leftovers, and so piece of cake to sub things in, employ what you've got! Put this in the recipe box for a quick, filling meal. DEFINITELY Improve THE NEXT DAY!
12/10/2003
This dish had a wonderful flavour. It was a warm and satisfying dish. My husband actually liked it. Volition cook again.
07/07/2005
This recipe was good...but not excellent. It was easy to make and skilful for times when you are in a pinch. My husband loved it, simply to me information technology tasted just similar a "jazzed-upward" version of "hamburger helper"! Probably won't be making it once more.
02/eleven/2018
Ane of my go to recipes. it'south uncomplicated and satisfying on a cold fall or winter day. I use real garlic and a whole container each of cottage cheese and sour cream. I mix sour foam mix with cooked noodles and layer like a lasagne. do not omit the green onions!
09/02/2005
Entire family unit loved this. Similar to broiled ziti. I added a can of diced tomatoes. Will definately make again. Peachy leftovers!
03/10/2009
Wonderful, hearty casserole recipe the whole family unit LOVED!! Eliminated the garlic salt and added clove garlic, also used white onion instead of greenish, but used a little green for topping. Very yummy!
01/16/2012
Actually very good...tasty. However, next time I think I volition utilise pork sausage to give it a little bit of zip.
06/29/2018
Succulent! My mother and I thought it was very tasty. I had to make a few changes. Since I'thousand allergic to wheat and eggs I had to use gluten complimentary penne pasta. As well I had some ground turkey meat on paw and used that instead of beef. I replaced the garlic table salt with a tsp of garlic powder to keep it depression sodium. That's one reason I like this recipe, it doesn't telephone call for any soups. Soups are tremendously high in sodium - blows my mind - they are very bad for my mom's blood force per unit area. Unfortunately I didn't take any cottage cheese then had to use parmesan cheese. I call back information technology volition sense of taste even better with the cottage cheese. And I will be making it again!
08/13/2007
I thought this was pretty skilful. I used Ricotta Cheese instead of Cottage cheese, minced garlic instead of garlic salt and left out the greenish onion. It was a expert dish and very easy and quick to brand.
09/29/2017
I wasn't in the mood for tomato sauce so I added a tin of cream of mushroom and used gruyere cheese instead! Information technology was a huge hit. Can't look for the leftovers!!
09/12/2021
This was pretty skilful, though I did notice the sour cream a little overpowering. I think I'll add some veggies to make it more hearty if I determine to make this again.
05/06/2018
Volition definitely make this again, my husband loved the flavor.
04/07/2019
This was very proficient and like shooting fish in a barrel to make. Family liked information technology. May utilize Rotel adjacent time in the meat sauce to add a little spice to it.
08/18/2014
Left out the onions and the butter. Family actually enjoyed this. I liked that it was quick and easy.
12/x/2015
I did brand some changes - I cooked the beefiness with regular onions and mushrooms in a cast iron pan, added all the other ingredients, so put that pan in the oven (fewer dishes - YAY!). It was enjoyed by all, including me for ease of grooming and cleanup as well as taste. I will make it again.
04/20/2014
Looks really good. I might try sausage every bit ane reviewer mentioned or footing night meat turkey. Not a fan of beef. Also I think I'll try it without any meat.
12/27/2000
This recipe was slap-up. Very easy to make and makes great leftovers.
06/29/2015
Next fourth dimension I'll add a lilliputian boot on the flavor.
